COMEDY CIRCUS

What better way to end the year on a comical note? So what if we are hurt by the laceration of political sarcasm, the major political parties will not stop from humoring us to death. What can be more sadistically pleasurable than humiliating the common sense of the common man by repeatedly mocking at his intellect?

Why, you ask?

Well, let me start with the awesomely funny holier than thou attitude. When both BJP and the Congress piously trade charges of corruption and mismanagement, it is obvious that both are the same sides of the political coin. The debate is more mirthful than malicious. Flip the coin and the magical zeroes of corruption might vary but the story remains the same. Let’s stop this hypocrisy of who is more corrupt. This charade of exposing the corrupt has become a big joke. Knowing well that both are in bed with each other, the joke is not even amusing.
This sham of raids under media pressure is again a hilarious stunt. The CWG games were over on the October 14, 2010. CBI raided Kalmadi on December 24, 2010. We get the humor. Ha, ha. A Raja emerged smiling after CBI ostensibly grilled him for 9 hours. Maybe the CBI was grilling chicken tikka and sharing jokes with Raja. Of course the joke was on us. We get it.

Ha, ha, again.
My belly hurts when both parties are accused of misappropriation of funds, privileges or power, and the reply is, “They also did the same during their regime.” Two wrongs do not make a right. We know that. So please do not kill us with the same buffoonery. Try something else. Use your ingenuity.

Superficial wounds heal. But deeper wounds leave scars; scars which become sick metaphors for decades to come. Fodder, Bofors, Adarsh and 2G might not land anyone in jail, yet these words have become witty invectives.
The Mumbai attack on 26/11 was a deep wound. You were unable to bring the perpetrators to justice. Fine. But please don’t burst into guffaws over the memory of those who lost their lives on that fateful day.

Denial?

Come on, tell me, what was a certain spokesperson for the government doing? In fact, every few days he opens his big mouth with his foot in it, giving ludicrous statements. If you endorse his preposterous comments then come out in the open and say it. If not, shut his big mouth with some red tape. You can’t accuse him of naiveté. He transgresses the limits of tolerance of the officer’s wife who lost his life, that fateful day. Greed for power can make you stoop to levels where you start giving color to terror? Even a child can tell you that terror is neither green nor saffron. If at all terror is red; the color of blood. So do not divide and drool. It doesn’t work anymore.
The irony is that some section of the media is also privy to your private humor. Stop the hypocrisy of hyperventilating for the cause of the common man. Most news is planted and paid for the sake of magical TRPs. Why garb your debates in the guise of social cleansing? Plan your maneuvers, get paid by the lobbyists, plant news and play your role in appointing ministers. Be brazen about it. Just don’t fool us. The stench emanating from the pretense of taking cudgels for the common man is nauseating.
For some reason if I am unable to pay my income tax, house tax or home loan, I will be punished promptly. If I do not have my pollution certificate or registration papers in my car, I might land in jail. Why not exculpate me?

Let’s strike a deal here. If you have the knack of cracking jokes, you should also have the courage to chuckle at my wise cracks. How about mutual banter? Some rib tickling humor. I will not ask you uncomfortable questions and you do not punish me for my innocuous crimes. Let’s all be corrupt. It will be awesomely funny start to the New Year.

  1. If BJP or Congress are telling each other corrupt, it is good in one way, they are exposing each other's deeds in public which otherwise may not see the day light.

  2. @S.R. Ayyangar...I guess that is one positive outcome. Let them tear each others clothes in public.
The point is they protect each other in private. They will strike deals of mutually protecting each other. You exonerate me and I will exonerate you when I am in power.

  3. Stand up to the corruption: Two things you can be assured of. 1. Life snuffed out. 2. Your courage can bring you a swiss account. The choice is yours. ;) Or just be a mute witness like how millions of us do happily contented.

    nicely written.

  4. Do you think anything will come out of these exposes? After a few years , all will be forgotten and forgiven and the same old bunch of fools will govern our country again. All politicians are the same, some are more corrupt than the others, but the corruption exists everywhere.

  5. People at responsible post must realize that the sluggish act on their part to rule the country properly would in longer run, may endanger their family members' interests too as they are also the end-users like you and me who reside here.

Do we ever question our relatives holding high offices about their wrong-doings ?

    The answer is NO.

Unless this is done we cannot expect honesty from our rulers. I have tried to bring forth this point boldly in my wrintings where Ronie (son) very often questions his Dad who is a Minister.

I invite you to visit the same.

However, your blog is very nice, I must visit its each and every page to understand its flavour which is perfectly written.

    Jai Shri Krishna

  6. Yeah its a mockery going on out there!! But at end of it, does it help...how will it help us? Coz till the time such leaders are there, corruption will continue!

  7. Yes let us all be corrupt and roll in money..... at least corrupt leaders have to face people every five years, what about corrupt bureaucrats who continue (especially the IAS/IFS/IRS).

  8. There are already too many people in the pool, so obviously, the common man cannot enter. And to keep their waters warm, we need to pay our dues, whatever they might be. We laugh at them when they open their mouths, they laugh at us at every passing moment.

  10. well has it ever done any good by all this , in all this time tell me when was it that a govt had not been said to have done wrong.. YET we the people vote for them and bring them to power...

Congress when it was made in RAJ times also never had te intention of doing anything for the country then. Then also it was full of people who were interested in there own good to hell with COuntry..

Its jsut a comedy show and it will continue always the same way , when manmohan sing became pm we thought at least now we will have a non corrupts pm but he is a mere puppet..
dont know when things will change i doubt ifthey will ever.... thats the hard truth and a FACT

@Bikramjit..There is a nice article in HT today...says that the biggest threat to the democracy comes from the cynicism that nothing differentiates good politicians from bad ones.Sab saala chor hai attitude will be a big blow to a few select good people who will lose out in next elections.Scams are fun to write about but we need to continue our search for heroes. I wrote this post in a fit of anger.

  19. HI Alka,

Nice post. :) If I would be the Judge in supreme court I would first had Kasab Hanged by now , and all corrupt politician should be behind bars for life terms so that if one tries to follow the suit they will think thousand times to do so.

Media on the other hand is not wisely doing anything ..what comes to their plate they just add some chillies to it and serve you ..leaving CWG aside ;) rest all they look like hawkers than News channels ..giving fast 20 , 10 or 30 news in 2 min , 5 minutes ...etc..
A thought process need to be put in place before we enter into the 2011 ...

    wish you a great year 2011 :)

  20. @Purba...I hope it doesn't...but that's the irony. Just when we thought it was only the politicians, along came the industrialists followed by the media and the judiciary. The cynicism is so deep rooted that no one wants to read or write about it anymore.

  28. Jai Shri Krishna,

Thanks for visiting and nice comments.

I've been writing satire on DAD & Ronie (son), which is welcomed by all. Brief chat between them is given here below for you to kindly read and enjoy which I am sure, you will find worth read under topic "Ministry of Telecom" :-

Ronie’s school is adjacent to a Mental Hospital and very often, school children enjoy watching them quarrel, snatch things from one another, singing, dancing, screaming and other funny activities from their classrooms. He explained today’s happenings to his Dad :-

wish that corruption could be cleaned from country with the hit spray...

  32. I am sure every Indian who feels for the country must be feeling outraged at the way things are being run by the government.
Look at the way our enforcement agencies work on the case of Mr. Puri from Citibank who duped some rich guys whose identification as we know it as HNI's. Kalmadi's and Raja's may be the HNI's whom this dude has duped I guess.Today there are different sets of rules for the rich. I am sure the situation is going to get worse before this can get any better.

  40. Sometimes after hearing all these nonsense in the media we feel like, politicians are doing their job ie., being corrupt and dishonest to the core. It has become a habit to them. If this is the inspiration that people get, the next educated generation will never join in politics, instead they will prefer to be on the other side of the blame.

Wonderful post Alka, thanks for sharing:)
